HANGAROA.

The Hangaroa River is nestled 43km out of Gisborne and offers great trout fishing and a picnic area.

LAKE WAIKAREMOANA and TE UREWERA NATIONAL PARK.

Waikaremaoan'a Aniwaniwa Falls are a spectacular sight on a beautiful day.

Lake Waikaremoana is well known for boating, fishing and many of the walks and hikes surrounding it. It is the largest lake in Te Urewera National Park. It permits hunting and includes waterfalls, caves and the Aniwaniwa Visitor Centre. Scenic views can be had from the many lookouts and there are picnic spots dotted all around the Lake and others surrounding it.

MORERE.

Morere Scenic Reserve is home to Morere Hot Springs and various native bushwalks. Set in 364 hectares of native bush and Nikau Palms, there is a choice of thermal pools of different temperatures, including some private. A store, tea- rooms, camping ground and BBQ area are also on site. This beautiful, natural environment is managed by the Department of Conservation.

MOTU RIVER.

The Motu River is located 289km from Gisborne and is one of New Zealand’s finest. It offers rafting, kayaking, jet boating and fly- fishing.

RERE FALLS / RERE ROCK SLIDE.

Located 50km from Gisborne lies this natural rock slide. Rere Falls Picnic Ground and Reserve is situated beside both sides of the Wharekopae River. Facilities within the Picnic area include tiolets, fire places and water supply.

TE REINGA FALLS.

Te Reinga Falls is the combination of two rivers, which also offer fishing, rafting and bushwalks. The Falls are located 70km from Gisborne and can be found on the road from Gisborne to Wairoa via Tiniroto.

TINIROTO LAKES.

The Tiniroto Lakes are situated 61km inland of Gisborne and are renowned for excellent year round fishing.

TUAI.

Tuai River is situated 10km from Lake Waikaremoana and offers trout fishing and white water canoeing. Bush and mountain walks are accessible and facilities in the area include petrol, store, lodge and a camping ground.

TURANGANUI RIVER.

Turanganui River is the shortest river in New Zealand, only 1200m in length. It reaches the sea near Waikanae Beach in Gisborne.

WAIOEKA GORGE.

The Waioeka Scenic Reserve is one of the largest in New Zealand and access may be gained from many points along the Gisborne to Opotiki Highway. The area abounds in fine native bush and hill scenery. There are good stretches for trout fishing and plenty of ideal spots for picnicking, swimming and camping. Bush walks of varying lengths are accessible and are signposted.
